Setting the dishes to dry and
Sitting down at the table

[2024-2025]DescriptionSetting the dishes to dry is an expansion and refinement of the prototype iteration, Porcelain Stacking Lamp. This iteration of the lamp features a larger selection of forms, in addition to a set of thrown and glazed pieces, and a white stoneware base. Sitting down at the table is an illuminated dining table that accompanies Setting the dishes to dry. It features a porcelain disk that acts as both the tabletop and the diffuser for the light below it. Through this hybrid of furniture and fixture, I wanted to ask what it would be like to illuminate the objects we regularly place on the surface of a table. What would it look like if we could see through the bottom of our food bowls, or through the pages of a book? How might this change in lighting affect our perspectives on these commonplace objects and their related actions?
Together as an interactive installation, Setting the dishes to dry and Sitting down at the table invite audiences to slow down and make carefully considered and intentional choices to shape the light that they use, and consequently the space that they occupy as well.
